Day 18
Spent day in Isoso, not quite a village but a line of homesteads tucked between the massive mountain range and the lake. Amazing people and not without genuine heros after yesterday’s show. One of the elders, Edward, has hosted us and is the only English speaker having lived in Australia. He had just slaughtered a goat so we timed our arrival well. Tonight we put on a meal for his family with our MRE packs.
We have done our best remote repairs but integrity of kayak compromised and won’t last on these big waters. We will be finishing the lake in another boat. Edward owns the only motor (30hp) boat in the area and we’ve negotiated to load our crippled kayak and if the water is calm enough at first light we will start our journey to Matema.
All boats in area have been grounded last three days because of the weather so it is no easy ask/task. But there appears to be a relatively sane patch between 6-10am in the mornings and that’s our window.
So close..
