Day 17

Swells wind and surf much worse than yesterday. Managed for 25km then sought shelter after capsizing many times. Crash landed on rocky shore..... Huge surf crushed us and the kayak. Villagers came out to pull us in. Kayak made it but damaged. Brent rolled on rocks and made it to shore...... Nick got sucked out to lake wearing life jacket but with bug surf couldn’t make it to shore. Brave fisherman in dugout came out for rescue.... Crash landed with dugout again at rocky shore. Nick scrambled on rocks to make it. One fisherman got sucked out to lake but was pulled back by villagers.... We are ok but cut bruised and shaken. Nice family invited us to their home for tea and food. Kayak severely damaged. Will repair w/ ducktape n super glue. Bad weather front hitting – radio warns strong wind until 21st. Plan is patch the cracks and paddle during early hours when wind lowest. Just 70km from end! Nothing for it but to shake it off and inch forward. Our safety comes first so will be extra prudent these last few days.
