Day 7
In the dawn light one of the fishermen climbed a rock and looked intently at the lake conditions. Satisfied they climbed into their row boat, each with a carved spear paddle and pushed off into the surf and out into the lake. We packed down and after a quick brew and some porridge were back on the lake. As predicted the wind picked up steadily. Paddled 17km to what Google Earth said was Nkwichi Lodge, only to land and be told we had passed the lodge 2kms back. A frustrating backtrack into heavy wind and surf. Well worth it in the end.
Met with Valentine, their Zimbabwe manager, had a quick drink at their beach bar and were offered a bungalow each for the night. Lodge is a remote paradise, off the grid, solar powered, no road access, white sand beach tucked in amongst the rocks and tree lined mountain, each room is open plan with views of the lake and open air bath/shower built into the rocks and a toilet with a view. My first shower in a week! Great afternoon and evening recharging our bodies, socializing and steadying the vertigo that now has me permanently riding the swells.
Well on our way
