Phase 1 complete!
Just getting ourselves and kayak to the lake has been an epic journey. I would not recommend or try repeat what we did, but we pulled it off. Thank you to Andrew Nightingale, Tim and Mike Thomas and Steven and Angela Cowan for support. On our first lake morning we collected a local guide and drove south close to the Talek Volcano on the southern shore (saw lots of dead sheep apparently killed from yesterday's massive storm). The lake, craters and islands make for an amazing prehistoric landscape; a photographers dream (sorry only managing phone pics for the blog updates). From there we loaded up and launched off for our journey north. The wind supported us one minute then flicked around the next, but we covered good ground and reached the town of Loiyangilani by 6:20 pm (35-40kms). It's hot (my thermometer actual burst because I left it on my kayak seat during a lunch stop!), there are storm clouds that cross the lake and the wind is like nothing I have seen, it defies all logic and it punches hard when it wants to.
