Turkana preparations - Intel from the lake

Email from Louis Leakey this morning...

"I flew up over the south end of the lake this morning and the road does head quite far south and then you can probably branch off it and make your way to the lake shore at the south end... south end of the lake can be extremely dangerous for rough waves and chop...it can be very rough indeed. Your best bet might be to stick to the shore and avoid South island all together.

It was pouring with rain up the north end and central part of the lake here today, all the lagas were flooded and visibility over much of the lake was very poor in the rain! Was thinking of you both in a sea kayak. The south end was all white horses on the water (and I was at 7500 feet) with a strong wind blowing from the north."
